TyreSafe and NTDA join forces to boost tyre safety in the UK

Two major organisations in the UK tyre industry, TyreSafe and the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), have announced a new partnership aimed at improving road safety and raising awareness about tyre care. TyreSafe is a charity focused on tyre safety, while the NTDA represents more than 300 tyre businesses – accounting for around 2,000 points of sale – across the country.

Together, they plan to launch joint campaigns, share research, and provide better resources to help drivers understand why tyre maintenance matters. Their goal is to make tyre safety a bigger part of everyday driving conversations and ensure that professionals like tyre fitters and retailers play a key role in educating the public.

The partnership comes at a time when new research from the NTDA, involving over 58,000 vehicles, shows a worrying increase in tyres that are technically legal but dangerously worn. These tyres, with tread depths between 1.6mm and 2.0mm, may still pass legal checks but pose serious safety risks, especially in wet conditions.

By combining TyreSafe’s public education efforts with the NTDA’s industry reach, the two organisations hope to create a stronger, unified message: safe tyres save lives. They aim to reduce accidents caused by poor tyre maintenance and make it easier for drivers to understand when their tyres need attention.

Ultimately, this partnership is about protecting drivers, passengers, and everyone on the road by making tyre safety a national priority.
