For its 2019 summer tyre test, Auto Motor und Sport (AMS) looked at the compact SUV size 215/55 R17. It tested 11 models on a VW T-Roc and found a group of tyres that largely performed well, but failed to dazzle. None received the German motoring publication’s top ‘highly recommended’ rating. But there’s good news – no less than seven were ‘recommended’.

Spring is in the air, and perversely this is perfect time to announce a new winter tyre. Nokian Tyres has shared details of the Nokian WR Snowproof, a range that’ll arrive in the run-up to winter 2019/20.

Pristine examples of the 240Z, RA28/TA28 Celica and the like fetch top whack these days, and fastidious owners daren’t overlook the tyres in their quest to maintain their pride and joy in original condition. A new replacement tyre from Yokohama may help here – from this summer, the Yokohama G.T. Special Classic will be available in three sizes – 165/80R15 87H, 175/80R14 88S and 165/80R14 85S.

Another tyre test from the Auto Bild family of magazines. This time, Auto Bild Sportscars looked at 11 products in 245/45 R18, a size frequently worn by executive saloons such as the BMW 5 Series. What it found was that the “top brands’ technological leadership compared with the remaining tyre makers” has shrunk.

Advan is the flagship tyre brand from Yokohama, and a new member of the Advan family is coming our way. The first sizes of Yokohama Advan Neova AD08RS street sports tyre arrive this spring. Yokohama will gradually release a total of 31 dimensions, ranging from 185/55R15 82V to 255/30R19 91W.

Having cut its teeth scrabbling over rocky trails in North America, the Yokohama Geolandar X-MT is ready for off-road action this side of the pond. The 4x4/SUV range will go on sale in markets across Europe this spring.
