The new summer tyre for compact and family cars from Vredestein will improve potential mileage by 30%. The Ultrac+ will be launched in January 2025 as the follow up to the Ultrac with a vast improvement in its environmental impact and total cost of ownership. The brand’s manufacturer Apollo Tyres adds that the tyre also reduces rolling resistance by 3%, which contributes to fuel saving or increased range in electric vehicles.
Developed in the Netherlands at the Apollo Tyres Global R&D Centre Europe, Apollo achieved this huge improvement in longevity by enhancing the ‘square’ footprint of the tyre and using a new, “cutting-edge” tread compound. The company’s internal testing has shown that “abrasion loss” has been reduced by up to 30 per cent, reducing the tyre’s environmental impact, while the additional improvement in rolling resistance compared to the Ultrac will help to maximise driving range and reduce whole-life cost.
Two leading independent tyre testers also conducted comprehensive evaluations of the new Ultrac+ in size 225/45R17 94Y XL. IFV GmbH certified Ultrac+’s longevity, while Applus+ IDIADA evaluated the performance of the tyre in the wet and dry, as well as its comfort. Both testing organisations benchmarked the Ultrac+ against leading premium-brand rivals. The tyre demonstrates a quiet, comfortable ride like its predecessor, thanks in part to the Ultrac’s optimised pitch sequence, which has been adapted for the new model. Applus+ IDIADA found that the Ultrac+ retains the Ultrac’s leading comfort, aided by its low noise levels and smooth ride quality.
The new tyre also features a centre rib with parabolic lateral grooves to enhance steering response and precision for a safe and dynamic driving experience. The new tyre benefits from next-generation tread compound technology, including a high level of silica, a traction-enhancing resin and a multi-functional polymer, which together balance wear and braking performance.

The new Vredestein Ultrac+ range will extend to 70 different sizes between 15 and 20 inches, targeting a wide selection of family and compact cars.
