UK tyre brand Davanti Tyres is encouraging drivers not to get complacent in checking the basic elements of a car, including tyres, as the weather turns autumnal. It says that many drivers rely on advanced safety features, like anti-lock braking and tyre pressure monitoring systems, to stay safe on the road. However, regular manual tyre checks remain essential for ensuring safety and legal compliance. As part of Tyre Safety Month, Davanti shares simple yet crucial tyre care tips to help motorists maintain tyre health and drive safely.
Three tips for tyre safety
- Check for Damage and Pressure:
Motorists should inspect their tyres monthly for correct pressure and visible signs of damage. Under-inflated tyres wear unevenly and can compromise safety. Look for cracks, cuts, embedded objects, or deformities in the tread or sidewall. If anything looks concerning, consult a garage professional.
- Monitor Tread Depth:
In the UK, the legal minimum tread depth is 1.6mm. The “20p test” is an easy way to check: if the coin’s outer band isn’t visible when placed in the tread, your tyres meet the legal standard. Adequate tread is vital for grip, especially in wet or icy conditions.
- Avoid Kerb Impact:
Mounting kerbs or hitting potholes can knock wheel alignment out of place, causing uneven wear and reducing vehicle control. Misalignment not only weakens tyres but can also lead to higher fuel consumption.
Peter Cross, CEO of Davanti Tyres, emphasises the importance of maintaining high-quality, well-cared-for tyres, especially ahead of winter. “Tyres are the only element connecting your car to the road, so it’s vital they are of a high quality and well looked after. Our winter and all-season ranges provide fleet managers and motorists with reliable, trustworthy options, as they plan ahead and look at tyre requirements for the upcoming winter period.”
Davanti advises motorists unsure of the safety of their vehicle to have them checked, pointing drivers in the direction of its dealer network.
