Cadillac, Chevrolet EVs riding on Continental tyres

Promoted as a “sporty and stylish EV designed for Europe,” the Cadillac Optiq is a compact electric crossover that General Motors first sold in China before bringing to global markets. It is scheduled to arrive across the Channel soon with UK sales to follow.

Original equipment tyres on European-spec models will likely differ from those seen in other parts of the world and we don’t yet have complete information about who is supplying what for the Cadillac Optiq. However, Continental says its CrossContact RX is an original equipment tyre on the Optiq in “numerous markets.” It is additionally providing the same tyre for the Chevrolet Equinox EV, an SUV built on the same platform as the Optiq but not sold outside of North America.

General Motors will factory equip both electric SUVs with the CrossContact RX all-weather touring tyre in 20- and 21-inch sizes, specifically 245/50 R20 105H XL FR and 275/40 R21 107H XL FR, with Optiq models sold in the UK and Ireland receiving the second of these. Continental says it has developed the tyres specifically for “safe, quiet, and comfortable driving, even with light off-road usage and moderate snowfall.” Both tyres feature the ContiSeal anti-puncture solution, which can seal punctures of up to 6 mm in diameter.

“Developers at Continental have designed the CrossContact series, tyres that offer excellent braking behaviour and effective dynamics on dry, wet, and snowy roads,” the tyre maker comments. “The adapted tyre tread pattern and contour also ensure low rolling resistance and improved traction in different weather conditions, including light snowfall. The uniform sipe arrangement on the tread reduces rolling noise and ensures a comfortable and quiet driving style.”
